Gentoo Penguinby *Lumen-Venator

Gentoo Penguin (Pygoscelis papua)

The third largest species of penguin, after the Emperor and King, Gentoos can be identified by the white stripe or bonnet across the top of their heads. They breed on sub-Antarctic islands such as the Falkland Islands and South Georgia.

This penguin was photographed at Edinburgh Zoo, home to one of the largest and most successful captively bred Gentoo Penguin populations in the world, with over 120 adult birds currently resident there.
